Licensed Mental Health Counselor
Quality of life is important. With an ongoing pandemic and the unexpected emotional impacts we are facing, life can be especially challenging right now. Anxiety and depression are at an all time high in our country as we struggle to find our way through.
Therapy can be helpful in these times. Having the dedicated space to unload our burdens, gain the tools to help cope and try to make sense of it all is part of what I can offer.
With over 25 years working as a licensed therapist, I am here to support you in addressing the issues that are making a good quality of life more difficult.
When everything feels overwhelming, life seems to be flat, grey and unrelenting, or maybe you only want to stay in bed day after day and don’t know why, you may be suffering from moderate to severe depression.
We will work together to diagnose and understand the causes of this difficult condition as well as determine the best approach tailored specifically for you.
If your mind won’t stop, even at 2am, and you spend a lot of time worrying about the future; if being around other people makes you uncomfortable and you never know what to say, you might have anxiety or social phobia.
We will work to understand the root causes of anxiety, panic disorder and social phobia and learn to use tools to make it easier to deal with the day to day realities of life.
If you work as a first responder (medical professionals, social workers, firefighters, police officers, etc…) and you find yourself having work-related nightmares, constant irritability, a lack of focus and/or you can’t find your normal level of compassion for others, you may be suffering from second-hand trauma.
We will focus on understanding and treating the creeping loss of your quality of life that can arise from too many hours on the front lines .
The terrible emptiness that comes with the death of a loved one or any other significant loss can be hard to navigate. Many of those around us keep trying to tell us to ‘get back to normal’ but we know deep inside that normal will never be normal again.
Understanding the basics of a grieving process as well as learning how your own is unfolding will be part of this work. We will develop personal strategies to help your journey be as gentle as possible.
When you feel like you are not being seen or heard by your significant other, there is most often something getting in the way. We can have old ways of responding to situations and people that are no longer useful - especially in primary relationships.
We will look at patterns of behavior, conversation styles, listening skills and techniques to help reduce emotional intensity during conflict so that you can communicate and listen more effectively.
Sometimes your goal is simply to go forward in life. You might want to learn something new about yourself, how to discover your purpose, or what direction to take for the next steps on your path.
We will use a variety of exercises to help you develop your intuition, gain more self-awareness and understand where your heart’s desire is leading you.
